Game Name : Red Faction System : PC - Windows Date Added : 2003-11-01 08:17:25 Written By : jgh50 Red Faction is an excellent First Person Shooter. It’s the first released of the two Red Factions currently available (Red Faction 1, Red Faction 2) The story begins with Parker, a miner working on mars for the ULTOR company. Suddenly on his way to his sleeping quarters a miner get’s feed up with it all and get’s into a fight with a guard. The Red Faction revolt begins. The Red Faction is like a union of all the miners, it is lead by EOS. The battle breaks out and ULTOR seems to be winning but Parker as to make it to the surface to escape. Along the way Parker receives a message from a man named a Hendrix who seems to be on your side. He tells you that he can help you, at first Parker is sceptical, but Hendrix turns out to be one of the reasons you survive! Along the way you will meet many characters. Some who you rescue, and some who you kill. Parker has to lead the miners to freedom…and it’s all up to you! Throughout Red Faction you will find many weapons. You can find Riot Shield, Pistols, Uzi’s, Grenades and the big rocket launcher! Red Faction isn’t split up into levels like Halo, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Vietcong. It’s all like one big level, anyone who’s played Half Life will know what I’m talking about. You have to make your way from pretty much the middle of mars to the surface so you can get back to Earth. There are a wide array of enemies, you’ve got your military guard, the robots ULTOR create, monsters of mars. There are a few surprises once you get back to Earth aswell. The gameplay is excellent. There are so many secrets hidden throughout the game. The characters you meet are quite good too. A very amusing thing to do is to throw a mine at someone and watch them run around screaming. Throughout the game there are a lot of thing to do to ensure your survival. For example you have to sabotage the 5 element chambers to open the door to the sub-bay. The game is both fun abd challenging and it’s one of the top FPS’s out. The graphics in Red Faction are simply superb. They may not be the best graphics in a game, but they are still very good. The cut-scenes are pretty good although you don’t see many until you get a little bit into the game. The map designs are quite well done. A fun thing to do to show just how detailed these maps are, is when your down in the mines at the start of the game attach a mine to one of the rock walls and blow it up and watch the bits of rock fly every where. It just shows you how much works was put into this game. I really like Red Faction. Obviously following in the footsteps of the monster game Half Life it has not got as much popularity as it could have. But it’s a great game and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good First Person Shooter.
