Game Name : TimeSplitters 2 System : Playstation 2 Date Added : 2003-11-01 08:09:27 Written By : Probed Out I think everybody wants to just go back and change something that happened, or change something you said, or change something that didn't happen or you didn't say. Maybe you want to go to the future and see what it's like. Well now you can. No I'm not talkin about cyrogenic freezing. Or hitting your head on a brick. The theme of TimeSplitters 2 is time travel. Using special crystals the characers of TimeSplitters 2 can travel back in time from where they are (in the future quite a few years from now) to historic events. Whether your killing gangsters or saving ladies in distress. The game puts your character inside other people's bodies from that time field. I story is creative, but it seems to be lacking something. I still don't know why they're after the crystals. The gameplay is below other FPS, but is still pretty good. It's way to fast though. The levels are complex and complicated. The levels are probably the saving point of this game. The design of your enemies is quite good as well. The way they die and move about is pretty unique. The graphics are unusual, and don't seem too realistic, but they do have that zing to them. They give you that cartoony feel that makes you feel like you aren't there, but you're watching it on TV. The sound is unique to the game. The sounds of the weapons are futuristic & cartoony. The music is very fitting to the game's feel and theme. The replay value is pretty good. You unlock more stuff the more times you play through the levels. With three different difficulties the levels are never dull. TS2's replay value is probably it's highest point. There are also mini-games that can be played over & over again. These include things like shooting up zombies, etc. The multiplayer is very similar to Red Faction II. You can play with your firneds. There are plenty of levels, some multiplayer exclusive, some unlockable. There can be bots (computer controlled players) running around if you want them to be as well. The only thing is the speed. Your running around and it's nealy impossible to turn around corners. Fire is your arch-enemy here. If you touch it you catch on fire. The only way to put it out is to find water. It slowly drains your health. It's extremely difficult to play the game at that speed. Each characters have their own stats as well. The monkey (yes you can play as a monkey) may be quicker than a heavy built man, but the heavy built man might have more stamina. I think they should have spent more time making the game look better and have realistic gameplay than have all these handy dandy features, but I can't blame them for trying. It seems as if every FPS is the same these days. I haven't played TimeSplitters 1 before, so I can't comment on it, but I think Free Radical is really trying hard with this, and if they made a TS3 I would support them all the way. Eventually Free Radical will deliver a unique, yet classicly good TimeSplitters that will really deliver. It's a series to watch. In conclusion, TimeSplitters 2 is a great game, it's got zing, it's not by any means a bad game, it's just hard to say stuff about it without confusing yourself or other people. Try itfor youself and make your own mind up. I jsust thought I'd mention this is the hardest review I've ever had to right, because I can't make up my mind if I like it or not. Pros: -Good ideas -Great weapons -Reaches into human desires -Pretty good gameplay -Fantastic levels -Good multiplayer -Great replay value -Good music Cons: -Pretty average graphics -Good original ideas for gameplay, just still not perfected -Not the best FPS out there IMO, but it's one to watch -Short story mode Title: TimeSplitters 2 Players: 2+ Genre: First-Person Shooer Publisher: Eisos Developer: Free Radical |
