Game Name : Super Mario 64 System : Nintendo 64 Date Added : 2003-10-24 12:19:49 Written By : jgh50 Now I realise that Super Mario 64 is quite an old game but this game is one of my all time favourites and is immortalised as being the first full 3-D adventure game! Walking across that draw-bridge into Peach’s castle remains the last jaw dropping “WOW” moment for a generation of gamers. In the game you play as the famous Mario. An Italian plumber in red and blue overalls who has foiled the evil plans of bowser many times in the past. Mario receives a not from Princess Peach. This note is inviting Mario to a party at Princess Peach’s castle in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario arrives at the castle and is greeted by the Lukita camera man; this is another gaming first which became popular after Super Mario 64. This game was the first to include a camera where YOU control the angles! Mario walks across the draw bridge and enters the caste. He is greeted by the evil laugh of bowser! Then bowser proceeds to tell you to get out! Mario knows something’s wrong and he knows he has to save Princess Peach! For every level you complete in Mario 64 you obtain a star. With every star you collect, power is restored to the castle. The levels are concealed in paintings, once you jump into a painting you are transported to the world that painting is set in. There are seven tasks to complete in each level and over 30 levels to complete! There are 120 stars to collect and once you have managed to get them Yoshi himself will give you a surprise! The game play is excellent for its time. Obviously being the monster launch title for the N64. Mario 64 was destined for good things. The game play is easy to learn but the game is far from easy to complete and gets very addictive. It’s fun for all ages and there are always secrets in the castle to discover. Even once you’ve finished it you’ll want to play it again, and again and AGAIN! The graphics are excellent and very well polished. Everything from the Bomb-ombs to the trees looks superb. Obviously being one of the 3-D, full 360 Degree movement games the graphics may not be as amazing as Halo or Grand Theft Auto: Vice City but they are still simply stunning. Another thing that is excellently done is the water. The way it splashes when you jump in and when you’re swimming the ripples that follow you as you go. This is personally one of my favourite games and probably will be for a very long time. I recommend this game to anyone who likes adventure games. Pros – Great Graphics – Amazing Storyline – Great Environments – Good Characters – Fun Levels – A Great Pioneer for Adventure games Cons - Maybe being able to play as Luigi would have been great If you like this game try: Crash Bandicoot, Mario Sunshine, Donkey Kong 64 |
