Game Name : Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex System : Playstation 2 Date Added : 2003-10-03 11:43:10 Written By : Probed Out Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex is the next installment of the Crash Bandicoot series (the fourth to be exact). The gameplay is much the same as the previous Crash games. The storyline isn't too much different than any of the other games. Basically the bad guys, a mad scientist named Cortex & an evil floating mask named Uka Uka, have enlisted the help of the elemental masks. Cortex has created a muscle bound clone of Crash named Crush, who uses the masks' power against you. Basically you take the role of Crash and his sister, as they set off with agood floating mask named Aku Aku to stop the bad guys. In the end you're not really missing out on anything too great if you miss this game. The biggest new feature is some of the abilities Crash gets, even then it's not too new. The graphics are pretty good for a family game. The sounds are interesting to kids ears, and help them enjoy the game. The replay value is one of the high points of this game. With time trials and relics to collect, there are a bunch of secret levels for you to play after you've finished the game. The con that brings this game down the most is it's loading time. The game takes about a minute to load a level, and and about a minute to get out of the level. That's about two minutes waiting for the game to load. A lot of little kids will get bored just waiting for the first level to load. This is different on the Xbox & GameCube versions though. There is really not much more to say, other than to rent it first and see if you're interested in the plot and like the general feel of the game. I'm all for a sequel, as long as the loading times are fixed. Crash Bandicoot was one of the icons of PSX (along with characters like Spyro & Lara Croft), but now it seems as if all of those characters only have one PS2 game on the shelves right now. That just goes to show PS2 are doing something different this time, and are creating new characters like Jak, Daxter, Ratchet, Clank, etc. to take over from Crash & Spyro. In conclusion the game isn't too different from it's previous installations, it's graphics are very similar, as is the storyline. This game is a slow one to load, but it may very well be worth it in the end if you enjoy the game. This game isn't a must get unless you are a major Crash Bandicoot fan. Pros: -Pretty entertaining game -Good sequel to the Crash Bandicoot games -Interesting and creative levels -Sounds/music keeps kids interested -Time trial gives you a reason to go back and play the earlier levels Cons: -Horrendous loading times -Not too much different from previous Crash Bandicoot games -Gameplay seems to be a little bit worse compared to the old Crash Bandicoot games Gameplay: 7/10 Graphics: 7/10 Sound: 8/10 Storyline: 7/10 Replay Value: 8/10 Rating: 7/10 Title: Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex Game Type: Adventure Players: 1 Content Rating: E for Everyone Developer: Traveller's Tales Publisher: VU Games |
