News Article Title : Microsoft and EA Mull Sega Bid Category : General Gaming Date Added : 2003-03-01 00:02:16 Sega - which recently announced plans to merge with pinball machine manufacturer Sammy Corp. - now has two video game giants considering their own bids for the ailing company: Microsoft and Electronic Arts. Friday's Wall Street Journal reports that the two U.S. companies are separately exploring the possibility of buying all or parts of Sega. Sources stressed that the two potential suitors have yet to hold formal talks with Sega and that no deal appears imminent. Sega on Friday is expected to announce a reorganization of its U.S. operations that will involve laying off perhaps 20 percent of its American workforce of 450. The cuts are expected to focus on sales and marketing positions at Sega of America and Sega's online unit. |
