We all know that once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. Most of them are so similar in the fact that they you get heaps of resources, build a base, a massive army and decapitate the enemy before they do the same to you. But this is where Rise of Nations comes in different. Rise of Nations will be more of a strategy game, like Civilization. This comes as no surprise as the producers, Big Huge Games, were the creators of Civilization 2 and Alpha Centauri. To make it plain and simple, Rise of Nations will include much of the grand strategy and a traditional action-packed real-time game. You may remember that Rise of Nations is a typical real-time game: you are an entire nation and you have to conquer the map by researching different technologies, expanding your borders and finally either conquering other nations or taking over the majority of the world’s landmass. However, Rise of Nations has changed – especially in graphics. The game uses both 2D and 3D graphics. 2D is used in the background and interface screens, and the 3D is used for the various units. Rise of Nations is also different in the way of researching different technologies. Big Huge Games put a Big Huge amount of effort into making sure that every single playable nation is different which includes it’s most advanced technologies. Even though you are controlling whole nations, most of the missions should be able to be completed in an hour for both the single and multiplayer modes. Also, the aim is not to just win and crush your opponent to death. The game gives each nation its own unique units and wonders which give a nation many bonuses if it is the first one built. All in all, Rise of Nations has changed significantly since it was first released. In my opinion, Big Huge Games have made the critics fall over themselves to give Rise of Nations a Big Huge 10 out of 10. |
