News Article Title : Game Boy Advanced SP Revealed Category : GameBoy Advance Date Added : 2003-01-13 11:48:35 Written By : Joshua Minchenko Yes, Nintendo has done it again. First there was Game Boy. Since that historic day, many versions of Game Boy have been released: Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Colour and Game Boy Advanced. Now, at a press conference held last week on Wednesday 8th in New York, a new Game Boy has been released. Namely, Game Boy Advanced SP, this newest version of Game Boy Advanced is undoubtedly the best Game Boy yet. The Advanced SP is featured in a clam-shell like design which is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. It also has an internal light which makes it easier to see under poor lighting conditions. The design of GBA SP protects the screen from scratches and any damage. The clamshell-like structure also comes in handy for travelling. When closed, the entire unit is very compact and easily fits into your pocket. Once it is folded, the GBA SP is just over 3 inches square and 1 inch thick. And what makes this handheld even more amazing, is that it is compatible with each and every GBA released. It has been announced that for GBA SP’s release on March 23 in the US, it will be available in only 2 colours: platinum and cobalt. However, it will be released in 3 colours in Japan and Europe. The lithium-ion battery is an extremely powerful battery. With the light on, the GBA SP has a guaranteed 10 hours of play, while with the internal light disengaged, Nintendo guarantees 18+ hours of play. There are several notable differences to the GBA SP than the GBA. The volume wheel has been changed to a slider, the game cartridges are loaded into the front of the unit and there is no headphone jack. However, it has been revealed that headphones can be effectively connected to the handheld via a cable into the power adapter port. Here are the basic specs for the Game Boy Advanced SP: Approximate Size (Closed): Height 3.33 inches, width 3.23 inches, depth 0.96 inches CPU: 32-bit RISC CPU with embedded memory Screen: 2.9-inch reflective TFT color LCD Light Source: Front lights have been integrated with the existing reflective LCD Display Size: 1.61 inches by 2.41 inches (identical to the Game Boy Advance) Resolution: 240x160 pixels (identical to the Game Boy Advance) Color: Simultaneously displays more than 32,000 colors (identical to the Game Boy Advance) Weight: Approximately 5 ounces Power Supply: Rechargeable lithium-ion battery Battery Life: 10 hours continuous play with three hour recharging period; 18 hours continuous play with light function disabled Hardware Color: Platinum and cobalt (metallic) Release Date: March 23, 2003 Suggested Retail Price: $99.95 Peripheral Devices (Sold Separately): e-Reader, Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable, Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable, Game Boy Advance SP Headphone Jack Adapter In conclusion, the Game Boy Advanced SP is definitely one of Nintendo of America’s best releases yet. |
