News Article Title : Future Selling Strategy for Sony and MicroSoft Game Consoles Category : General Gaming Date Added : 2003-12-03 02:31:36 Written By : Silvia Chang In Stat/MDR's analysis had shown that, even though XBox and Game Cube's sales are still on the rise, the sell drop of PS2 had attributed the lowered demand for the current generation of consoles as a while. It is controversial, however, whether XBox is still leading the Game Cube in total world wide sales. The reports from different companies show contrary. As for sales in Japan, it is clear that the XBox has virtually no market share-- due to the lack of the favorite genre of games in Japan-- RPGs. To reach out to the Japanese consumers, XBox Japan has announced of refocusing its attention on producing more RPGs for the console-- though it is not definite how it can attract RPG developers to develope for the console-- since many of which already have close relations with Sony and/or Nintendo. As MicroSoft plans to work its way into the Japanese market, Sony had announced launching PS2 in China-- on December 20th in 5 major cities-- to widen the sales. Many Japanese publishers-- including Koei, Bandai, Konami, Namco, Sega, Capcom, and Taito had been preparing Chinese translations for their lastest games. Even though Sony sees the 5 cities (with total of 10 million house hold) as a potential mass market, the officials have failed to indicate sales target for the console in China. Since both Sony and MicroSoft are both breaking into new markets, it will be interesting for the gamers to see the outcomes-- if XBox suceed in the Japanese market and if Playstation2 wins over the Chinese market. |
